LloydsPharmacy stores across UK join domestic abuse support scheme

LloydsPharmacy has said its stores across the UK will today join a nationwide initiative to enable victims of domestic abuse to access support.

The Ask for ANI (Action Needed Immediately) codeword support scheme, which was developed last year by the Government, allows people to get help discreetly from pharmacy staff who can take them into a consultation room and help them contact the police and other support services.

The UK's second largest pharmacy multiple has said its 1,400 stores will participate in the scheme amid concerns that domestic violence has increased during the Covid pandemic.

“We are delighted to share that LloydsPharmacy will be taking part in this important initiative. We know that the lockdown restrictions have been especially difficult for those experiencing domestic abuse,” said LloydsPharmacy superintendent pharmacist Victoria Steele.

“The new scheme will enable victims to get the help they need in a safe and discreet way. LloydsPharmacy has a robust safeguarding policy and procedures in place, all our pharmacy teams are trained and will be discreet and confidential.

“We are in an ideal position to help as our pharmacy teams are seen as trusted and accessible within the community and we have always provided an invaluable service to patients. We are proud to say that the majority of our pharmacies will be taking part, those with a private consultation room or area.”
